Hi! I’m Sharlyn Lauby and welcome to HR Bartender. You might be wondering where the name HR Bartender came from…
As a human resources professional, I’ve always felt that my colleagues and employees wanted me to act like their neighborhood bartender – that friendly face who’s there when you need them. After a long day at work, they listen, laugh with you, occasionally offer advice, and when you need it, give you the encouragement to go out and make stuff happen.
HR Bartender focuses on topics that relate to the workplace, not just human resources. Some of our most popular subjects deal with how to be a better supervisor and leader, employee engagement, and career advice. I frequently answer reader questions about everything from what happens during an employee investigation to providing job references during interviews. We share new content 3-4 times a week.
Since starting HR Bartender, I’m proud to say the blog is consistently recognized for its practical, trusted content, and casual tone. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) named it one of the Top 5 Blogs read by human resources professionals.
When I’m not tending bar, my “day job” is president of ITM Group, Inc. We’re a training company focused on developing programs to retain and engage talent in the workplace. If you want to find out more, please feel free to download our white paper “3 Ways to Tell if Your Company Needs Leadership Training” [pdf].
In addition to my writing and consulting work, I’m often asked to speak at conferences and industry events. I’m honored to say that I was rated a top speaker at HR Southwest for three years running. And my workshop on human resources metrics was one of a handful selected to be featured as an online learning program for SHRM.
My off-hours are spent searching for the best cheeseburger on the planet, playing Pokemon Go, and watching Marvel movies. You can check out my full bio here [pdf].
Please pull up a stool and subscribe below, order your favorite beverage, and join the conversation…the bar is always open.
