Catching up on my business reading today and just came across an article in Management-Issues titled “Don’t trust HR to manage your talent“.
Now, I’ve read a lot of articles over the years about my profession. Most of them complain about the profession’s lack of strategic thinking or need to embrace technology or they need more of a business focus. And, for the most part…they’re right. Human resources professionals need to be strategic and they need to embrace technology and they need to have more of a business focus.
But so do a lot of other professions.
Every profession has its weak points. In this global economy, new ideas are introduced every second. It’s very difficult to keep up with all of it…but I also understand that’s not an excuse. If we want to understand the future workforce, we need to embrace their lifestyle. And if we want that corner office, we have to be a true business partner.
We tell our employees not to bring problems to the table…bring solutions. Same goes for complaints – if our profession is not keeping up with the changing workplace, the answer is to help them get there. Not just complain about it.
Be a part of the solution.
